This is the NonProphet Theater Company's signature sketch comedy show. Originally produced in 1997, the show ran for a sold-out ten week run at the now defunct St. Marcus Theatre. The show saw several incarnations in the subsequent years, but finally returned to its original form in February 2003 when we were booked at The Hi Pointe Cafe. Between February and May of 2003, we performed six shows. The response was so great that in June of 2003 we were then offered the opportunity of turning it into a weekly Thursday night show. Two years and 100 shows later, we ended our longest consecutive run on March 10, 2005. Since then, we have performed several special shows and limited runs, and will continue with new shows into the future. When The Hi Pointe closed its doors on September 3, 2006, The NonProphets had the distinct privilege of performing a final show to a sold out (and sad) crowd. The show is a fast-paced mixture of theater, bingo and sublime weirdness. The Militant Propaganda Bingo Machine has earned The NonProphet Theater Company a 2006 Kick Ass Award from the 52nd City, the title of Best Comedy Show of 2003 by the Riverfront Times, and the cover story in the November 12, 2003 issue of the Riverfront Times. Here's how it works:
The NonProphets have performed over 200 episodes of the Militant Propaganda Bingo Machine, and have nearly 1000 different sketches in our catalogue =============================================================== Here's what some local publications have to say about the show: "It was a non-stop evening of break-neck comedy…" -Playback St. Louis Magazine, July 2003
"Perhaps what is more important than how the NonProphets are doing what they do, is that they are doing it at all." -John Shepard, Playback St. Louis, August 2003
"Founded by husband-and-wife team Robert A. Mitchell and Kirsten Wylder-Mitchell, the NonProphets are providing the St. Louis theater scene with a badly needed and remarkably witty, underbelly." -John Shepard, Playback St. Louis, August 2003
"Considering that Saturday Night Live uses a few dozen professionally seasoned writers to churn out material for a weekly 90-minute program (minus commercials and musical guests) and considering that the last half-hour of that show consistently sucks, what the NonProphets accomplish each Thursday night in the Hi-Pointe Café's upstairs performance space smacks of miracle-working." -Rose Martelli, The Riverfront Times, September 2003
"... The reigning kings of sketch comedy in St. Louis." -Ben Westhoff, The Riverfront Times, November 12, 2003
"The Non-Prophets' show, such as it is, consists of 24 very short sketches, all written by the actors in the show and performed with a lot of energy and confidence. They do so much running and jumping and shouting that I'm amazed they have the strength to stand at the bar and have a beer by the end of the evening." - Sean Ruprecht-Belt, 88.1 FM - KDHX
"It's a long night, but one that can provide an abundance of laughs to counter the groans." - Mark Bretz, 88.1 FM - KDHX
